Fire Dept

The Long Rapids Township Fire Department began in 1962 with a vote at a Township meeting. A volunteer fire department was organized and has operated every since. The department originally covered the townships of Long Rapids, Maple Ridge, Green, and the east half of Wellington. Eventually the townships of Maple Ridge and Green organized their own fire departments leaving Long Rapids Township and half of Wellington Township as the current coverage area. The role of the fire department has evolved over the years from fighting fires to include Emergency Medical Services (EMS). Long Rapids Township will be forever grateful to the current and former members of the Fire Department and their families for their service and dedication to the community.
